BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Broome County legislature passed two resolutions impacting the Deposit and Sanford areas.
On Thursday the legislature voted to facilitate the Deposit police force to be absorbed by the county.
In a public referendum in Deposit early in January, the village voted to dissolve their police force, which was struggling financially for years.
This vote officially allows the Broome County Sheriff's office to provide Deposit with police protection, replacing the town's police force.
"Now the sheriff can move forward with acquiring the assets, which are the cars and some of the other things that were associated with the police department, and to be able to begin police protection there," says Daniel J. Reynolds, (R) Chairman of the Broome County Legislature. "They have a start date, they're winding some of the other things down, but really what this was was the administrative action to allow all of that to take place."
Also passed Thursday, a road use agreement for the Bluestone wind farm project in the Sanford area.
This contractual agreement protects the county's roads from any damage they may incur, if the wind farm project was to move forward.
"It allows us to go back, they'll have an agreement that's worked out by the county attorney and the companies involved in this to be able to go back and recoup some of the cost for the damage they may do to it," says Reynolds.
Both resolutions passed unanimously.
