REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, The Indonesian Embassy in Amman has opened the first Indonesian language class in Palestine. More than 100 practitioners and students participating in the class.
The class to be held in a building of the Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Palestine. It was initiated by the Indonesian Embassy in Amman in cooperation with the Hebron Mayor Office, the Association of Palestine-Indonesia Friendship (PIFA), and the Palestine Indonesia Business Council (PIBC).
"Language is a medium to know and unite each other. The opening of the Bahasa Indonesia class in Palestine is expected to deepen brotherhood between Palestinians and Indonesians," Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine Andy Rachmianto noted in a statement here on Friday.
The class is expected to introduce Indonesian language and culture to Palestinians that can help them to improve the economy and education, Rachmianto remarked.
Sharing the same opinion, Hebron Mayor Tayseer Abu Sneineh believes the class will play an important role in enhancing bilateral relations. Indonesia has consistently supported the freedom of Palestine. On the other hand, Palestinians are enthusiastic to learn Bahasa Indonesia, especially for tourist guides.
Every year, some 90 thousand Indonesian tourists visit holy sites in Palestine, and the figure is expected to increase. In the education sector, the Bahasa Indonesia class will help students, who are seeking scholarships offered by universities in Indonesia.
Currently, 44 Palestinian students have studied for their bachelor's and post-graduate degree in Indonesia. In 2019, some universities in the country have offered 130 scholarships to Palestinian students.
The launch of the class has been part of the 30th commemoration of Palestine-Indonesia relations on Oct 19 conducted during the working visit of the Indonesian ambassador in Amman to Palestine on Feb 10-13.
